To customers in EU countries: Handling of VAT

A new EU Value Added Tax(VAT) law came into effect on July 1st, 2021, and in principle we, 8mart are required to collect VAT for all parcels shipped to EU countries with a total value of EUR 150 or less.

However, according to Japan Post, double taxation troubles have been reported in some EU countries such as Germany. https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/information/2021/0916_01.html (Japanese)

In order to avoid such troubles, 8mart will not collect VAT from our customers in EU countries as of now. 8mart continues to have the logistics service providers pay VAT on behalf of our customers at the time of import customs clearance and bill our customers upon delivery of the package.

DHL, one of the logistics service providers, has branches in both countries, so they can quickly complete the procedures.
