[Important] Notice for Customers Residing in the United States
* This notice is addressed to customers residing in the United States.
* Updated on March 4, 2025
President Trump issued a new executive order on March 3. The additional tariff on Made-in-China products, originally set at 10%, has been revised to 20%. It remains uncertain whether the de minimis rule, which exempts tariffs on shipments containing Made-in-China products valued at $800 or less upon arrival at U.S. customs, will still apply. If you receive any communication from the shipping company or customs regarding necessary procedures, we kindly ask for your prompt cooperation.
* Updated on February 10, 2025
President Trump announced on February 7 an executive order amending a February 1 executive order that imposed new additional tariffs on all Made-in-China products.
As a result, the suspension of the de minimis rule for Made-in-China products will not take effect until the Secretary of Commerce notifies the President that an appropriate system is in place to fully and promptly process and collect the applicable tariff revenues. In other words, the previous de minimis rule is expected to remain in place for the time being.
Thank you for always choosing 8mart.
On February 1, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order imposing an additional 10% tariff on all Made-in-China products. As this order was neither revoked nor suspended by the February 4 deadline, it is said that this will likely apply to all Made-in-China products cleared through U.S. customs from February 4 onward.
This tariff is said to apply not only to goods shipped directly from China but also to all Made-in-China products shipped from around the world.
At 8mart, as a purchasing agent service that purchases products on behalf of our customers residing outside of Japan, we have always made every effort to ensure proper customs declarations. As a result, we have never encountered import restrictions or returns due to our own mistakes.
Requests for Customer Cooperation
Due to this new tariff policy, our operational workload may increase, and to facilitate smooth customs clearance and reduce the burden on our customers, we kindly ask for your cooperation with the following:
1. Ordering Methods to Reduce the Risk of Customs Clearance Issues
- To minimize the risk of customs clearance issues, please avoid mixing products of different categories or countries of origin within the same shipment request whenever possible. Additionally, please refrain from ordering bundled products that contain items from multiple categories or countries of origin within a single listing.
Good examples: A package containing only Made-in-Japan manga, only Made-in-China plush toys, only Made-in-Korea K-POP photocards, or only Made-in-Italy leather bags.
- According to information from shipping companies, combining four or more different types of products in a single shipment increases the likelihood of being held by U.S. customs.
2. Handling Inquiries from U.S. Customs
- If U.S. customs inquires about the contents of your package, you are responsible for responding promptly.
- To help ensure smooth customs clearance, we recommend carefully selecting the items included in each shipment request.
3. Payment of Customs Duties and Additional Fees
- Many products distributed in Japan are made in China, meaning they may now be subject to additional customs duties and other fees upon import into the U.S.
- In such cases, please ensure that you pay any applicable fees by the deadline set by the shipping company and promptly receive your package.
- If the country of origin cannot be confirmed due to the item being unopened, is not labeled, or if the product is a bundled listing containing items from multiple countries of origin, we may enter the country of origin based on past order history of similar products for convenience.
For example, if a plush toy does not have a country of origin label, we may enter 'Made in China.' Additionally, if a bundled listing contains two or more items that are made in China, we may also enter 'Made in China' for the entire listing.
- If you have any concerns regarding the charges from the shipping company, please contact the shipping company directly and take responsibility for resolving the issue.
We understand that these changes may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
